Er waren heel wat deskundigen. En ze waren niet erg positief over de industriepolitiek in Europa (wel over de researchmogelijkheden overigens).<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>De biobased economy in Europa wordt gehinderd door achterblijvende regelgeving, en het gebrek aan subsidiemogelijkheden en belastingvoordelen. Daardoor zal de tweede grote fabriek van PLA (polymelkzuur) ter wereld (na die van Nature Works) eerder in Thailand zal verrijzen dan ergens in Europa. Toch zal Europa haar technische voorsprong op de een of andere manier om moeten zetten in productie op commerci\u00eble schaal. Al hadden de heren niet helemaal gelijk, DSM bouwt een barnsteenzuurfabriek in Itali\u00eb en Avantium wil na haar PEF-proeffabriek voor Coca Cola ook een kleine commerci\u00eble fabriek neerzetten; het liefst in Nederland. Maar misschien valt dat allemaal nog steeds onder ontwikkeling. Zo gauw het om grote commerci\u00eble installaties gaat, geven Europa en Nederland kennelijk niet thuis. Zo komt onze eigen groene chemische industrie natuurlijk nooit van de grond.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Gemeenschappelijk Landbouwbeleid<br \/>\n<\/strong>Overigens, op dezelfde conferentie stelde Michael Carus van het Duitse Nova Instituut dat Europa bij de herziening van zijn Gemeenschappelijk Landbouwbeleid eindelijk meer aandacht moet gaan schenken aan de groene chemie. Er is volgens hem te veel aandacht voor energie (enkel- en dubbeltellingen voor bijmenging van biobrandstoffen in benzine en diesel) en er is dan ook geen gelijk speelveld tussen chemie en energie.
