Alyssum kan zeer hoge concentraties nikkel absorberen wanneer de plant op de juiste bodem groeit. Wij willen aantonen dat op basis hiervan een economisch vatbare nikkelmijnbouw kan worden ontwikkeld.<\/strong><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_8363\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-8363\" style=\"width: 251px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-8363\" src=\"https:\/\/www.biobasedpress.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/Amandos-mine.png\" alt=\"Amandos mijn nikkel erts\" width=\"261\" height=\"148\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-8363\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Amandos mijn<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Op Cyprus bezochten we een voormalige asbestmijn waar een nikkelhoudende bodem wordt gevonden. Op dit moment wordt de mijn <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amiandos.eu\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\">gerehabiliteerd<\/a> en opnieuw beplant en we hebben een paar terreinstukken bekeken die geschikt zijn voor alyssum-teelt. We overlegden met de Cypriotische Geologische Dienst en met de Dienst Bosbeheer, die de hele rehabilitatie leidt. Deze twee instellingen zullen met ons samenwerken om het geplande Alyssum proefproject op Cyprus te managen.<\/p>\n<p>De interessantste ervaring van deze reis was hoeveel je in een paar dagen kunt leren door gewoon ergens te zijn. Natuurlijk, gedurende een dergelijk bezoek verzamel je veel foto\u2019s, brochures, tekeningen en documenten, en ik heb veel over geologie geleerd. Maar praten met mensen, rondrijden, koffie drinken en goed uit je ogen kijken is juist van onschatbare waarde. Kortom, dit bleek een zeer succesvol bezoek als voorbereiding voor een veelbelovend project.<\/p>\n<h2>Nikkel bio-erts<\/h2>\n<p>Ik heb Alyssum-monsters verzameld om in Nederland te analyseren. Daar moet meer zekerheid uit volgen over onze aannames, en moet richting geven aan het ontwerp van ons proefproject. Wij mikken op een heel interessant doel: de productie van nikkel bio-erts. De moeilijkheid is dat het telen van Alyssum moet worden gezien als landbouw, maar dat het winnen van nikkelerts uit de planten niet kan wordt beschouwd als mijnbouw, tenminste niet volgens de huidige normen.<\/p>\n<p>Dus, om de levensvatbaarheid van het winnen van nikkel met planten te bewijzen,\u00a0 moeten ook nieuwe normen worden ontwikkeld. Dit maakt het project echt uitdagend. In de mijnbouw denkt iedereen groot \u2013 maar produceren op een veel kleinere schaal, en het gebruik maken van landbouwtechnieken, vereist een nieuwe filosofie.
