Dit is een uitwerking van haar ontwikkelingsstrategie, die zich met name richt op biobased materialen.<\/strong><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_6257\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6257\" style=\"width: 281px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6257\" src=\"https:\/\/www.biobasedpress.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Matrica.jpg\" alt=\"Matrica biorafffinaderij in Porto Torres, Sardini\u00eb\" width=\"291\" height=\"195\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-6257\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Matrica biorafffinaderij in Porto Torres, Sardini\u00eb<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Kort geleden is Versalis, de chemische afdeling van de Italiaanse chemiegigant Eni, een strategisch partnerschap aangaan met Elevance Renewable Sciences, een Amerikaanse producent van speciale producten uit natuurlijke oli\u00ebn. De twee bedrijven willen op industri\u00eble schaal een nieuwe metathese-technologie ontwikkelen om chemische stoffen te maken uit plantaardige olie. Op de Porto Marghera fabriek van Versalis willen ze bovendien de haalbaarheid testen van de productie van bio-ethyleen uit plantaardige olie met metathese, gebruik makende van de reeds bestaande infrastructuur.<\/p>\n<p>Eni begon haar biobased campagne in 2011 toen ze de joint venture <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biobasedpress.eu\/nl\/2014\/01\/bioraffinage-van-distels-gaat-de-economie-van-sardinie-versterken\/\" target=\"_blank\">Matrica<\/a> aankondigde, opgezet samen met landgenoot Novamont. Novamont is marktleider in biologisch afbreekbare plastics. Samen investeerden ze \u20ac 500 miljoen voor de ombouw van de petrochemische fabriek in Porto Torres op Sardini\u00eb tot bioraffinaderij (de opening was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chemweek.com\/home\/top_of_the_news\/Matrica-commissions-green-chemistry-complex-at-Porto-Torres_61853.html\" target=\"_blank\">afgelopen maand<\/a>, noot van de vertalers). Nu wil Eni de Porto Marghera raffinaderij gebruiken voor de productie van bio-butadieen samen met Genomatica. In dit project, waarin ook wordt samengewerkt met Elevance, werd <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eni.com\/en_IT\/media\/press-releases\/2014\/02\/2014-02-11-Overhauling-Porto-Marghera.shtml?\" target=\"_blank\">\u20ac 200 miljoen ge\u00efnvesteerd<\/a>. Eenzelfde bedrag wordt ge\u00efnvesteerd in de modernisering van de ethyleenkraker. De productie zal daardoor een half jaar stil liggen. Door de hoge energiekosten is de Europese petrochemische industrie niet meer concurrerend. Vandaar de ambitie van Versalis om haar bestaande Europese installaties om te bouwen tot bioraffinaderij, en zich meer te richten op speciale producten en groene chemicali\u00ebn; de Italiaanse chemici verwachten dat de vraag daarnaar zal groeien.<\/p>\n<h2>Bioraffinaderij voor groen ethyleen?<\/h2>\n<p>In hun innovatieve project voor de productie van bio-ethyleen richten Versalis en Elevance zich vooral op de ontwikkeling van nieuwe katalysatoren, op basis van de resultaten van Elevance tot nu toe. Er draait al een bioraffinaderij die met technologie van Elevance palmolie verwerkt in Gresik, Indonesi\u00eb. Een <a href=\"http:\/\/www.biofuelsdigest.com\/bdigest\/2013\/10\/23\/elevance-accelerates-second-commercial-scale-biorefinery-to-be-operating-in-2016-in-natchez\/\" target=\"_blank\">tweede bioraffinaderij<\/a> komt in 2016 in bedrijf in Natchez, Mississippi. Daar zal men C9 en C10+ alkenen gaan produceren uit koolzaad en soja. Bio-ethyleen is echter een nieuwe ontwikkeling. Op het moment produceert alleen het Braziliaanse Braskem het, uit suikerriet. <em>\u2018De biobased sector vormt de kern van de nieuwe industri\u00eble en commerci\u00eble benadering van Versalis. De overeenkomst met Elevance versterkt ons vermogen tot groene innovatie.
