Het Europese GRETE project<\/a> is afgesloten. Het doel van dit onderzoeksproject was de ontwikkeling van nieuwe soorten textiel uit houtpulp. Met partners uit Finland, Oostenrijk, Itali\u00eb, Spanje en Portugal. Het omvatte vele groene grondstoffen en vele technieken.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In de vier jaar van zijn bestaan heeft het GRETE project nieuwe en betere technieken voor het bewerken van houtpulp ontwikkeld. Het verbeterde ook het oplossen van cellulose en het maken van textielvezels van hoge kwaliteit. Bovendien in overeenstemming met de behoeften van de markt en milieueisen. Op dit moment, zo vertelt ons de website van het project, is de textielindustrie een van de meest vervuilende ter wereld. Terwijl we ook nog in 2030 bijna twee keer zo veel textiel zullen produceren, als gevolg van bevolkingsgroei. Tegenwoordig zijn de meeste vezels gebruikt voor kleding synthetisch. Sommige natuurlijke vezels hebben problemen van rechtvaardigheid en duurzaamheid. Vezels uit houtpulp zouden daardoor een middel kunnen zijn voor een duurzamer textielindustrie.<\/p>\n

GRETE project: nieuwe technologie\u00ebn<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Het GRETE project maakt gebruik van nieuwe vloeibare zouten als oplosmiddel. Hierdoor kunnen ze Kraft pulp, zowel uit zachthout als uit hardhout, chemisch en enzymatisch bewerken. Dit verbetert ook de opname van kleurstoffen en de brandwerendheid. Voor Europa kan toepassing van deze technologie\u00ebn betekenen dat vezelproductie terugkeert naar het continent \u2013 op het ogenblik worden de meeste natuurlijke vezels ge\u00efmporteerd.<\/p>\n

Het consortium schrijft op zijn website dat het GRETE project belemmeringen voor het gebruik van textiel uit hout wil tegengaan. Waaronder:
\n– de beperkte hoeveelheid grondstoffen voor het maken van textiel;
\n– de ongeschiktheid van veel oplosmiddelen voor deze processen (vele zijn explosief en\/of giftig);
\n– waterverontreiniging door bestaande technieken van vezelbehandeling en verven.
\nHet consortium probeert deze belemmeringen te overwinnen met nieuwe technologie\u00ebn. Zodat de industrie een ruimere keuze uit cellulosegrondstoffen heeft.<\/p>\n

Minder milieuvervuiling<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Zoals wel blijkt uit deze doeleinden, wilde het GRETE project nieuwe ionische oplosmiddelen (ionic liquids, IL) ontwikkelen. Deze zouden chemisch stabiel en te recyclen moeten zijn; en toch cellulose goed moeten kunnen oplossen. Natuurlijk met als doel, textielvezels van hoge kwaliteit te maken. Met technologie\u00ebn die weinig water gebruiken, zodat het maken onze kledingstukken aanzienlijk minder milieuvervuilend zal worden.<\/p>\n

Het GRETE project heeft 3 proefschriften opgeleverd, 5 peer-reviewed publicaties, en 3 manuscripten die nog beoordeeld moeten worden. Bovendien zijn er nog 4 papers in voorbereiding. Wij hopen dat het project ook heeft geleid tot industri\u00eble kansen voor de deelnemende industrie\u00ebn. De persberichten van het project zeggen daar erg weinig over. Naar we aannemen is dat een industrieel geheim. Maar laten we hopen dat het project de moeite waard is geweest.<\/p>\n
