Het interessante van festivals als Springtij op Terschelling is dat je er af en toe volkomen onverwacht mensen met echt vernieuwende idee\u00ebn tegenkomt. Iemand als Gunter Pauli die het begrip ‘Blue Economy’ uitvond omdat de ‘Green Economy’ hem niet snel genoeg gaat en niet goed genoeg is.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ooit gehoord van Gunter Pauli of van de Blue Economy? Ik ook niet voordat hij als een van de keynote speakers in de loods van het Springtij Festival verscheen. Wie is Gunter Pauli, wat behelst zijn begrip Blue Economy\u00a0 en waarin verschilt de blauwe van de groene economy? Gunter, die er verschillende boeken over schreef, zegt er over: ‘De groene economie is duur en gesubsidieerd, overigens met de beste intenties. De blauwe economie – blauw omdat de aarde vanuit de ruimte blauw lijkt – is goedkoop, betaalt zichzelf, komt snel met oplossingen en is tegelijkertijd goed voor mens, samenleving en milieu. Innovatie is niet het verschil, dat geldt voor beide systemen.’ In het blauwe business model verschuift de samenleving van schaarste naar overvloed door milieu- en andere problemen op een geheel nieuwe wijze aan te pakken.’ Maar altijd komt de technologie met verrassende en financi\u00eble, en ‘open source’ (wetenschappelijke) oplossingen.<\/p>\n

Innovatie 44<\/strong>
\nGunter komt met een voorbeeld. In Colombia redde zijn stichting een stuk regenwoud, plantte er snelgroeiende bamboe, gebruikte het onderste gedeelte van zes meter om huizen van minder dan duizend dollar mee te bouwen voor de arme locale bevolking en gebruikte het bovenste deel voor de productie van pulp voor de papierindustrie. Zo kon men zichzelf bedruipen, er ontstond een nieuwe toplaag die water vasthield en dat kleine stukje gered regenwoud werd een prima woonplaats voor de bevolking daar (innovatie 44). Of het voorbeeld van het Koreaanse zuiveringsslib en afval uit de levensmiddelenindustrie dat veel extra biogas zou kunnen opleveren voor de verbranding, maar waar hij, via plasmatechnologie, zuivere koolstof en waterstof van maakte (51).<\/p>\n

Ge\u00efnspireerd op natuurlijke systemen<\/strong>
\nPauli, een goede naam trouwens voor een wetenschapper, is geboren als Belg, hij was assistent van Aurelio Peccei (Club van Rome, waar hij zelf ook lid van is), bouwde in 1992 de eerste ecologische fabriek Ecover (die biologisch afbreekbare schoonmaakmiddelen produceert), richtte de stichting ZERI (Zero Emissions Research and Initiatives) op en is tegenwoordig hoogleraar (Japan), consultant, ondernemer en inspirator van systemen waarin productie en consumptie worden verenigd in clusters die ge\u00efnspireerd zijn op natuurlijke systemen. In zijn boek The Blue Economy is het uitgangspunt: ’10 jaar, 100 innovaties en 100 miljoen nieuwe banen’. Al die 100 innovaties kunnen de wereld veranderen. Hij ziet het boek, dat is uitgegeven bij Paradigm Publications, als een nieuw rapport aan de Club van Rome.<\/p>\n

Het gebeurt niet vaak dat je zo iemand in het dagelijkse leven tegenkomt en alleen al zijn voordracht maakte het bezoek aan Springtij meer dan de moeite waard. Gunter Pauli lijkt iemand die voor alle problemen en moeilijkheden een duurzame en rendabele oplossing heeft, maar misschien moet iedereen zelf eens naar zijn 100 innovaties kijken, die achter in zijn boek zijn opgesomd.<\/p>\n
