We raakten steeds aan de praat, want Wijnand had verrassende idee\u00ebn en vernieuwende inzichten. Vorige week overleed hij, 58 jaar oud. Hij laat een vrouw en twee kinderen achter.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biobasedpress.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/Wijnand-Schonewille.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-17651\" src=\"https:\/\/www.biobasedpress.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/Wijnand-Schonewille.png\" alt=\"Wijnand Schonewille\" width=\"245\" height=\"184\" \/><\/a>Wijnand ging schrijven voor Biobased Press <a href=\"http:\/\/www.biobased-opportunities.com\/abstraction\/Blog\/Blog.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">naast zijn eigen site<\/a>. In ruim vier jaar tijd schreef hij 28 columns. Steeds met een eigen kijk op de wereld. In zijn eerste column, eind 2015, getiteld \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biobasedpress.eu\/nl\/2015\/11\/niet-meer-klagen-over-europese-afvalwetgeving\/\">Niet meer klagen over Europese afvalwetgeving<\/a>\u2019 keert hij zich tegen ondernemers die bij de pakken neer zitten. Afvalwetgeving ontwikkelt zich voortdurend, zo betoogt Wijnand. Stoffen die nog nuttig verwerkt kunnen worden moeten niet als afval worden geclassificeerd; dat brengt allerlei regels en beperkingen met zich mee. De wetgever staat hier open voor; maar dan moeten ondernemers er wel moeite voor doen.<\/p>\n<p>Deze ondernemende instelling, het steeds zoeken naar nieuwe mogelijkheden, spreekt uit veel columns. In 2019 vergeleek Wijnand <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biobasedpress.eu\/nl\/2019\/06\/torenhoge-ambities-zijn-onmisbaar-bij-upcycling\/\">twee projecten voor verwerking van afval van de champignonteelt<\/a>. In het \u00e9ne wordt afval verwerkt tot compost, brandstof en warmte. Het kreeg subsidie van de Nederlandse overheid. In het andere (Europese) project worden van dit afval enzymen gemaakt, bio-pesticiden, meststoffen voor de tuinbouw, nano-dragers voor medicijnen en materiaal om meststoffen in te kapselen. In beide gevallen wordt voork\u00f3men dat boeren geld moeten neerleggen voor het verwijderen van het afval. Maar het laatste project is veel ambitieuzer en alleen al daarom beter. \u2018Torenhoge ambities zijn onmisbaar bij upcycling,\u2019 zo vatte Wijnand zijn visie samen.<\/p>\n<p>Op subtiele wijze prikte Wijnand graag heersende opinies door. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biobasedpress.eu\/nl\/2019\/10\/introspectie-en-innovatie-gaan-niet-samen-in-nederland-vinden-we-onszelf-al-snel-behoorlijk-goed\/\">In Nederland vinden we onszelf al snel behoorlijk goed<\/a>, luidde de titel van een van zijn columns. En <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biobasedpress.eu\/nl\/2019\/05\/verbeter-de-duurzaamheid-zonder-het-merk-te-schaden\/\">in een ander stuk<\/a>: \u2018Hoewel duurzaamheid een breed en complex begrip is, lijken bedrijven zich tot slechts enkele thema\u2019s te beperken met herkenbare, begrijpelijke, meetbare en beheersbare marketingdoelen: recycling en het terugbrengen van de <em>carbon footprint<\/em>. De reden: bedrijven willen hun bestaande merk niet schaden.\u2019 Al voegt hij er meteen aan toe dat veel bedrijven op de achtergrond toch een bredere visie hebben. Ook hekelde hij de vele biobased conferenties erom, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biobasedpress.eu\/nl\/2018\/02\/conferenties-oude-wijn-nieuwe-zakken\/\">dat zij steeds minder nieuws te bieden hebben<\/a>. Idem met een sterretje <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biobasedpress.eu\/nl\/2018\/09\/innovaties-heb-ik-wat-gemist\/\">bij het grootste biobased blog, Biofuels Digest<\/a>. En in zijn laatste column legt hij <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biobasedpress.eu\/nl\/2020\/01\/circulaire-economie-bio-plastics-hebben-een-probleem\/\">een zwak punt bloot van de biobased plastics<\/a>. Er is een wildgroei van nieuwe stoffen op de markt, terwijl er geen regels zijn om deze te classificeren. Zodat het na vele jaren marktontwikkeling nog steeds onduidelijk is hoe deze plastics verantwoord kunnen worden verwerkt als ze worden weggegooid. Een echo van zijn eerdere stuk over de <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biobasedpress.eu\/nl\/2016\/06\/biobased-markten-standaardisatie-nodig\/\">noodzaak van standaardisatie<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Als ondernemer volgde Wijnand nauwkeurig <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biobasedpress.eu\/nl\/2019\/05\/nieuwe-call-for-proposals-van-bbi-ju\/\">de ontwikkeling van de Europese onderzoekprogramma\u2019s<\/a>. Wij hebben samen nog een poging gedaan, daarop een voorstel in te dienen. Hij kritiseert de procedures om het grote belang dat hierin wordt gehecht <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biobasedpress.eu\/nl\/2018\/12\/lost-in-translation-calls-for-proposals-worden-bepaald-door-taalgebruik\/\">aan de formulering van de voorstellen in taal<\/a>, in tegenstelling tot \u2018niet-talige communicatiealternatieven, zoals wiskunde, grafieken, foto\u2019s, tekeningen, kaarten, schema\u2019s.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Wijnand schreef zijn (voor mij) meest verrassende stuk over <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biobasedpress.eu\/nl\/2016\/01\/produceren-nikkel-bio-erts\/\">nikkel bio-erts<\/a>. Op een verlate asbestmijn in Cyprus zit heel veel nikkel in de bodem. Te weinig om direct te winnen \u2013 maar misschien is er een truc. Op het terrein groeit een Alyssumsoort die hoge concentraties nikkel bevat. Het plantje concentreert het nikkel in de bodem. Kan het misschien geoogst worden om daaruit nikkel te winnen? Wijnand bezocht de site en nam Alyssumplantjes mee naar Nederland voor analyse. Het project kwam helaas niet van de grond.
