Teleurstelling en vastberadenheid. Dat waren overheersende gevoelens bij de terugblik op Rio+20, 19 juli in Den Haag. Teleurstelling over het gebrek aan resultaat: slechts de bevestiging van al gemaakte afspraken, zonder nadruk op hun urgentie. Zoals de Nederlandse delegatieleider Kitty van der Heijden het stelde: \u2018De problemen zijn duidelijk, maar we willen ze niet horen\u2019. En vastberadenheid om toch door te gaan. Zoals Nathalie van Haren van BothENDS blogde: \u2018We kunnen het ons niet veroorloven, te wachten tot iemand ons gaat leiden naar de toekomst die we wensen. We moeten daar zelf heen. We moeten onze toekomst maken, deel uitmaken van de verandering, en bovenal goed doen.\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n

Dit sentiment weerspiegelt een internationale trend van decentrale duurzame ontwikkeling, buiten internationale fora om.\u00a0 Landen als China, Mexico en Korea investeren in duurzaamheid zonder te wachten op internationale afspraken, en lokale overheden waren in Rio nadrukkelijk aanwezig. En steeds meer bedrijven spelen een rol in duurzame ontwikkeling, evenals vele vormen van burgerinitiatief. Ook technologische ontwikkelingen , die twintig jaar geleden nog als voornamelijk vervuilend werden beschouwd, werken nu meer mee.<\/p>\n

De focus van de debrief was dan ook niet: terugkijken op Rio. \u2018Wij zitten hier omdat we het maatschappelijk middenveld zijn,\u2019 aldus Louise Fresco, voorzitter van het organiserende platform. Bij de vraag \u2018Hoe nu verder?\u2019 was er veel aandacht voor het bijeenbrengen van de vele maatschappelijke initiatieven rondom duurzaamheid. De precieze vorm hiervan is op de bijeenkomst zelf niet duidelijk geworden, maar het is voor Nederland waarschijnlijk dat NCDO hierin een grote rol zal spelen.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
