We are seeing a fundamental shift in the global bio-based chemicals market, as brands take action to steer their supply chains away from a traditional petro-chemical base, and those who have already made the change enjoy the benefits both in public perception and commercial performance.

This ‘pull demand’, in addition to favourable government regulation supporting the market, makes it an incredibly exciting time for the industry as it begins to achieve its true potential. Properties of bio-based materials are increasing in performance and beginning to outstrip those of petro-chemical alternatives, and in addition, more efficient manufacturing processes are starting to bring the costs down.

However, for the bio-based economy to achieve the success that we all believe it can, a new cohesive approach is required to unite the industry and make it more efficient and commercially focused. Chemical producers, technical experts and consumer facing brands need to stop working in silos, and instead pursue regular communication and engagement as they work towards the same goals.
